Fourth Round Update

Hello, this is Seung.  Thank you for reading our blog.  It shows us that you value us and think that we are important enough to spend your time for and with us.  My fourth round chemo was on July 17.  What happened? I gained 1 pound.  I didn't sleep at all during chemo. My body was tired, but I was on my phone. Esther and I met my oncologist during the chemo session. She shared that my CEA numbers are trending nicely downward (down from 15000s to 5000s). I definitely had more energy compared to previous three sessions.  Yet, I overexerted myself to feel better (wanting to SEE that I was getting better sooner) and didn't feel well for few more days. I had a fever for few days (which scared and worried Esther a lot), but thankfully no fever now. I am still losing my hair.  But I have accepted the fact that I will lose hair.   Some gratitudes include: My brothers, including my brother-in-law A surprise visit from family Timely visits from ...

Finding comfort in the mundane

7/16/23 Hello Fam!  It's been some time since our last update.   Since then, Seung has received round 3 of chemo and is actually going in tomorrow to get round 4.  Some praise reports :) I had shared before that Seung's liver enzyme numbers were trending down and praise be to God that all but 1 are in the normal range AND his cancer numbers (CEA) have dropped from 15,000s to 8,000s.  We still have a LONG road (normal is below 5), but we are so thankful that Seung's body is tolerating chemo well and we're seeing improvements each time he receives chemo.   Round 3 was a beast. We had changed one of Seung's anti-nausea medications because the side effects were gnarly.  It would send Seung almost into a vegetative state because they were so sedative, BUT it helped keep the nausea at bay.  Since we changed his medication, he was more alert, but the nausea hit him much harder than before... It took him a full week to "recover" and slowly get back i...

A Dose of Reality

Hello, this is Seung (it seems like Esther and I are taking turns updating).  After the second round of chemo, I wanted to share few updates and thoughts. My second round chemo was on June 19.  What happened? Thanks to a certain friend who told us that the second round of chemo will be the hardest, Esther and I got really nervous.   Well, I slept through chemo.  The anti-nausea meds knocked me out for hours. Then, it left me dehydrated. One change with the chemo was that my oncologist upped the dose of irinotecan (one of chemo meds) since my liver enzymes improved.  However, this left me with more side effects.   I am losing my hair.  I'm taken back by how much falls out every time I wash my hair.   Also, the anti-nausea med left me very drowsy and lethargic few days after chemo.  I was not in condition to update blog or even read the Bible. During that week, I had a thought.  Not an optimistic one, but just a realistic on...
